Group offer: One day nature & pleasure experience

INDIVIDUAL ARRIVAL BY BUS OR TRAIN (tip: easy to reach by public transport)

9.30 a.m.: Arrival at the tourism portal directly at the railway station in Puchberg am Schneeberg
Visit the viewing terrace with photo point and rack railway exhibition or browse through the souvenir shop. Restaurants and cafés as well as a playground in the immediate vicinity invite you to linger while you wait with a view of the Puchberg spa gardens.

Tip for travelling by bus: Your guests can get on and off the bus directly in front of the tourism portal at the train station. However, please note that the bus car park is approx. 550 m (7 minutes' walk) from the station. You can find more information about travelling here: Arrival information for coaches

10:30 am: Train departure from Puchberg railway station
Make your way through the tourist portal at the station to the platforms and take a seat on the modern, barrier-free Salamander trains or the nostalgic steam train of the Schneebergbahn and enjoy the varied journey, during which the surrounding nature changes a little with every metre of altitude covered.

11:00 a.m.: Stopover at the Baumgartner stop
After a half-hour journey, you reach the Baumgartner stop, where the Salamander makes a 5-minute stopover. Here you can try the famous Schneeberg Buchteln (filled with apricot or Powidl jam). A real treat for the palate!

11:10 a.m.: Arrival at the Hochschneeberg mountain railway station
After another 10 minutes, the Salamander train crosses the mountain area and then reaches the highest railway station in Austria at almost 1,800 metres above sea level: the Hochschneeberg mountain railway station. Here you can already see the full beauty of the surrounding mountains. Explore the newly built mountain area, take a leisurely stroll to the Elisabethkircherl, relax at the Kaiserrast or visit the large children's playground with rope jungle with your children.

Tip for larger groups or (company) events: On request, we will be happy to make the historic mountain railway station and the adjoining Salamanderplatz available to you exclusively. Here you will find perfect conditions for catering offers, seminars or celebrations of all kinds. You can find more information under: Event location Hochschneeberg.

11:30 am: Take a hike on the highest mountain in Lower Austria
Hiking enthusiasts get their money's worth on the Schneeberg: there are countless hiking options with different durations and levels of difficulty available to you here. We recommend one of the following hiking routes starting from the mountain railway station:

  • A short hike to the Damböckhaus (approx. 15-20 minutes walk in each direction)
  • A circular hike to the summit cross at 2,076 metres above sea level including a stop at the Fischerhütte (approx. 90 minutes walk in each direction)
  • A hike down the valley to the Baumgartner stop (approx. 60 minutes' walk; good shoes and surefootedness required), from where you can board your booked train in comfort.

13:45 or 15:15: Descent options
You can shorten the waiting time at the mountain railway station with a visit to the adjacent Hochschneeberg mountain inn or by browsing through the souvenir shop. You can then board your Salamander train comfortably and barrier-free at the Hochschneeberg mountain railway station and take the 40-minute journey back down to the tourism portal at the railway station in Puchberg am Schneeberg, from where you can start your individual return journey by train or bus.
