Group offer: One day nature & pleasure experience

Below you will find a travel example based on the most popular travel times for a group excursion with the Schneebergbahn. Please note that we will be happy to offer you alternative journey times for your desired day of travel on request. If you also require special journey times or extensive seating capacities of up to 115 seats per Salamander train, please take a look at our charter train offers.

9:30 a.m.: Arrival at the tourism portal directly at the railway station in Puchberg am Schneeberg.
After collecting your tickets, enjoy your time in the valley: visit the viewing terrace including photo spot and breathtaking Schneeberg view on the 1st floor of the newly built tourism portal or experience the history of the Schneebergbahn in the cog railway exhibition. Various restaurants and cafés in the immediate vicinity invite you to enjoy hearty delicacies with a view of the Puchberg spa gardens.

Tip for arriving by bus: Your guests can comfortably get on and off the bus directly in front of the tourism portal at the train station. Please note, however, that the bus car park is approx. 550 m (7 minutes' walk) from the station. You can find more information on how to get there here: Arrival information for coaches

10:00 am: Departure of the train from Puchberg station.
Make your way through the tourism portal at the station to the platforms and take a seat on the modern barrier-free Salamander trains or the nostalgic Schneebergbahn steam train and enjoy the varied journey, during which the surrounding nature changes a little with every metre of altitude covered.

10:30 a.m.: Stopover at the Baumgartner stop.
After just a half-hour ride you will reach the Baumgartner stop, where the Salamander train makes a 5-minute stopover. Here you can get the famous Schneeberg-Buchteln (filled with apricot or Powidl jam). A real treat for the palate!

Tip: To keep waiting times short and the Schneeberg Buchteln warm, we recommend that larger groups book in advance by telephone if possible, giving details of the time of travel on +43 650 2441453.

10:40 a.m.: Arrival at Hochschneeberg mountain railway station
After another 10 minutes of travel time, the Salamander train crosses the mountain area and then arrives at Austria's highest railway station at almost 1,800 metres above sea level: the Hochschneeberg mountain railway station. Here you can already see the full beauty of the surrounding mountains. Explore the newly built mountain area, take a leisurely walk to the Elisabethkircherl, relax at the Kaiserrast or visit the large children's playground with rope jungle with your children.

Tip for larger groups or (corporate) events: On request, we will be happy to make the historic mountain railway station including the adjacent Salamanderplatz exclusively available to you. Here you will find perfect conditions for catering, seminars or celebrations of all kinds. You can find more information under: Eventlocation Hochschneeberg.

11:15 am: Take a hike on the highest mountain in Lower Austria.
Hiking enthusiasts get their money's worth on the Schneeberg: here you can choose from countless hiking options with different durations and varying degrees of difficulty. We recommend one of the following hiking routes starting from the mountain station:

  • A short hike to the Damböckhaus (approx. 15-20 minutes walking time each way).
  • A circular hike to the summit cross at 2,076 metres above sea level including a stop at the Fischerhütte (approx. 3 hours walking time).
  • A hike down the valley to the Baumgartner stop (approx. 30 minutes walking time; good shoes and surefootedness required), from where you can comfortably board the train you have booked.

13:45 or 15:15: Downhill options.
You can shorten the waiting time at the mountain railway station with a visit directly to the adjacent Berghaus Hochschneeberg or by browsing through the souvenir shop. Then board your Salamander train comfortably and barrier-free at the Hochschneeberg mountain railway station and start the 40-minute downhill journey back to the tourism portal at the railway station in Puchberg am Schneeberg, from where you can start your individual return journey by train or bus.
